CAP - PARTNERING WITH SCHOOLS
Civil Air Patrol can be a valuable partner to your school district. Our cadet programs are designed to promote leadership and discipline among young adults while giving them opportunities that most teenages could only dream about. Help prepare your students for success by encouraging them to participate in Civil Air Patrol.
There are several levels of involvement that a schools can have with CAP. All of them have great benefit to the student and the success of the school.
- School Cooperation - The school system cooperates with existing CAP squadrons to encourage students to get involved.
- Teacher Involvement - One of the school teachers becomes an Aerospace Education Member, gaining access to programs and materials.
- School Enrichment Program - The school system and CAP implement a in-school program for cadets, very similar to ROTC
At any level, the school and the students win!
SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The SEP is designed to provide CAP “squadrons” in America 's classrooms for any schools wanting to incorporate CAP's full cadet and aerospace programs in their educational design. The program can be implemented as either an in-school, elective course program or an after-school, enrichment program. At this time, there are over 70 SEP squadrons throughout our country listed as Group 800 Squadrons. There are over 2,000 cadets actively involved in the SEP activities which are offered at the school, as well as the supplemental activities and encampments that further the cadets’ opportunities and experiences to experience a myriad of future leadership or aerospace career choices.
Another aspect of the SEP is to recruit and train teacher members, called Aerospace Education Members (AEMs), to actively promote learning using CAP's aerospace education materials and national standards-based lesson plans. These materials and lesson plans supplement the teachers' core curriculum. There are over 1,000 AEMs reaching over 25,000 youth using CAP's aerospace materials in the classrooms.
INFO FOR TEACHERS
Put Civil Air Patrol to Work Inside Your Classrooms
If you’re an educator, Civil Air Patrol has programs to help you teach ordinary subjects in an extraordinary way, no matter what grade you teach!
CAP has a special Aerospace Education Membership program just for teachers. With CAP’s free curricula and classroom materials, you can introduce the wonders of space and aviation into many different subject areas. Our hands-on exercises and national standards-based materials and textbooks will hold the interest of your hard-to-motivate students, and take your achievers to even higher levels.
Each year, CAP sponsors the nation’s premier aerospace education conference. CAP also supports more than 100 aerospace education workshops throughout the nation, which are listed in the bi-monthly CAP AE newsletter, along with news, teaching tips, teacher profiles and the latest in available grants. Teachers who consistently use aerospace education in their classrooms are eligible to receive national awards for excellence in the field.
As a teacher, you can also benefit from CAP by introducing your older students to the CAP cadet program. This multi-step training gives young men and women a chance to do meaningful volunteer work while developing valuable leadership and technical skills, physical fitness, personal responsibility and moral values. Cadets also have a chance to learn about aviation and space, as well as military history and customs. CAP cadet training can help your students become more disciplined and motivated to excel.
