Don Gentile Composite Squadron 709

Piqua, Ohio

Commander: 1Lt Richard Borgerding
Deputy Cmdr: Capt. Dave Webb

November Meeting:

I wanted to remind everyone that this weeks meeting has been canceled as many are traveling and preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday.

December 1st Meeting:

When you return on Tuesday December 1st, the uniform of the day will be the AF Blues.
If and only if you have not been issued your Blues, you may wear your BDU Uniform.

Upcoming events:

On Saturday December 5th, we will be traveling as a group to Sinclair College for First Aid and CPR Training. All cadets are expected to attend as this is a core requirement for your emergency services rating.

  • You will need to bring $10 and a sack lunch.
  • You must be in a complete uniform and properly groomed.
  • We will meet at the UVJVS parking lot at 0800 and will travel together to Sinclair. I am looking for parent volunteers to assist with driving and chaperone of cadets.

Squadron policy, Handbook, and Cadet progress forms

  • The cadet handbook is being revised to reflect recent changes in squadron policy. As part of these changes the demerit system is being abolished.
  • In its place, Cadet progress forms will be distributed to all cadets at the next meeting.
  • The form will indicate what the requirements are for your next promotion.
  • Also on the form will be sign off boxes for participation and uniform inspections.
  • You must exceed 80% participation and 80% pass rate on uniform inspections for the quarter to be eligible for promotion.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure your forms get signed. We will not "back sign" forms for cadets that forgot.
  • Cadets that fall below 50% in either category will be required to appear before a disciplinary board.

Uniform inspections:

  • Uniform inspections are held following opening formation. If you are late, you will not be able to join opening formation and will not be inspected.
  • Uniform inspections will be held weekly, and will be tracked on your cadet progress form.
  • Failure to meet grooming standards (hair, nails, and jewelry) will be counted an automatic failure of the uniform inspection.

Testing:

  • Testing sessions for promotions will be held every Tuesday in December up through December 22nd.
  • You must pass uniform inspection in order to sit for tests.

Promotions:

  • Effective immediately, you must apply for promotions. Your applications will be reviewed by a promotion board that will include two senior members, and the two most senior members of the cadet staff. In addition to your testing requirements, your attendance, attitude, participation, and uniform wear will be considered.
  • The deadline to complete your requirements and submit your application for promotion will be on December 29th. The promotion board will review applications on Dec 29th.
